We hope this will be a “front door” for people to get more involved and meet others. Plus, we hope people will take this model and simply take it into their communities. Regenerate Cascadia and Transition Whatcom invite you to join us on Oct. 28 for an evening presentation on reimagining a stewardship path that better serves our home and on Oct. 29 for tours of local regeneration projects. These events are part of Regenerate Cascadia’s Bioregional Activation Tour. With stops in 14 different locations around the Salish Sea, this tour will serve as a kick-off to Regenerate Cascadia’s efforts to initiate a bioregionalism movement in Cascadia and will be capped by an online Bioregional Summit scheduled for early November. The presentation on the 28th will feature Joe Brewer, internationally renowned for his work in regeneration and bioregionalism, community artist and weaver Clare Attwell, and Brandon Letsinger, founder of Cascadia Now! and the Department of Bioregion (of which Regenerate Cascadia is a project). The tours will stop at three Whatcom County locations, highlighting various regeneration projects, including a live biochar burn! The presentation and tours aim to highlight and empower the incredible place-based networks, innovations, and on-the-ground work taking place across watersheds in the Cascadia bioregion, with a focus on Whatcom County, to regenerate damaged ecosystems, protect healthy ecosystems, address climate change, and promote sustainable ways of living, working and learning together that are just and equitable. Skagit Valley College Lewis Hall, room L 311 2405 East College Way, Mount Vernon, WA and on Zoom here: On October 30, 2023, Joe Brewer and Penny Heiple, Design Pathway for Regenerating Earth, will be joining the Cascadia Bioregional Activation Tour organized by Clare Attwell and Brandon Letsinger for meetings with residents of both Skagit and San Juan Counties. This tour is a powerful example of clear vision combined with local action. Using bioregions as its central organizing principle, Regenerate Cascadia ‘is working to address the social and cultural causes of the climate crisis to undo the cultural and ecological damage caused by colonization and overconsumption.’ “Regenerate Cascadia is approaching Climate Change, not with a solution, but with questions. We hope that through an emergent process, we will come together to share ideas and solutions. But who has a seat at the table? What voices are missing? What are the new forms of best practices, protocols, and governance to use for making these decisions?” “The Cascadia Bioregional Activation Tour offers a month filled with presentations, workshops, and field trips in 14 locations and is capped by a Bioregional Summit. It starts with the premise that ‘the work that the world needs is already happening in our communities. The Tour comes to Skagit and San Juan Counties on October 30. The main live event will be held at Skagit Valley College in Mount Vernon in Lewis Hall 311, 5:30-8pm and will be streamed to residents in both counties. We also have permission to use “Classroom C” on upper level at Skagit Valley College/San Juan Center in Friday Harbor with a capacity of 25-30 people. ADA access is available through the lobby. Majority of parking is down below the building. Access to lobby and restrooms will be available as well.
